Council challenger John Baker, an airline pilot, seems like the only candidate fussing for cleaner air.

Clean Air and Grant Money

I believe that any policies that promote clean air and water should be vigorously pursued by the council.  Our 'quality of life' and own good health are dependent upon such policies.  The Clean Fleet Vehicle Policy, as proposed by the Regional Transportation Council, should have been passed by our city council the first time it came up - January, 2008.  Only after embarrassing publicity for Keller did the council reconsider and adopt the Policy.  In a recent Star Telegram article, our own mayor was quoted saying,

We did get some negative feedback for rejecting it. We got a lot of bad press, too, and you know it hurt.

Further, by joining at least 70 other metroplex entities, Keller is now eligible to apply for up to $59 million in grant money for street and infrastructure improvements.  By partnering with neighboring communities, Keller will reduce our own tax burden as we work to eliminate traffic congestion, improve our air quality and ensure the health of our children.
